Fashion is an expression of style, culture, art, seasons, status, religion, age, ethnicity, profession and moods to name a few. Trends are a representation of the current time, being up to date and following the “in” and “latest” and “must haves”…
How we interpret fashion is very subjective but looking at the mass, you might stop and notice that fashion is dictated in a sense that the majority of people follow the trends instinctively and adopt the looks and styles that were put together by the major players, celebrities, glossy magazines and style icons of the fashion world.
That said, we all need to buy and wear what’s on offer now as staying current is essential; but are you bringing in a piece of “you” to what you wear and how you style it?
That’s where personal style comes in; where you get your inspiration from the glossy magazines, browse the malls for window-shopping and check out the celebrities’ fashion world, but at the same time turn to your inner style sense and decide what ‘s in it for you and how it can be worn in a way that reflects your own personal style and portrays your current image.
Inspiration comes from unusual places as well. Music, cinema, literature, nature, and the street can trigger a different kind of fashion and style. To have a personal style, make sure you experiment with fashion and culture, trying different ways of owning them. Take what is on offer in the market and make it your own by styling it in your own sense. Last, remember that “less is more”… don’t be tempted to adopt all the trends at once. Having one trendy piece to update your wardrobe is enough, try mixing it with classic pieces, accessorizing and make sure to “inject” a special element in every outfit! |
